Appreciative Ecotourism Reviews (The Fresh AER Project)

The Participatory Ecotourism Group (PEG) seeks to expand offerings in ecotourism that are locally beneficial and link this effort to participatory research strategies.  To reach this goal, PEG raises awareness amongst travelers of their potential beneficial impacts in a local community or ecological setting.  Travelers can contribute to improving their local involvement and the practices of ecotourism professionals by appreciating what they are already doing really well and letting others know about it!

Beginning in the Fall of 2010, PEG will moderate the posting of appreciative reviews of participatory ecotourism ventures around the world.  This appreciative project seeks to encourage owners and staff of ecotourism facilities to build on their strengths.  The project will identify strengths in creating benefit for the local community and in restoring or protecting ecological systems.

Over time, we expect this effort will offer measurable improvements in community well-being and ecosystem stewardship in the settings that have been appreciatively reviewed by Participatory Network contributors.

Please contact us prior to your visit if you wish to join the AER network.  We can discuss specifics with you in detail.  To begin, please view our draft questionnaire as a guide for your next appreciative experience in participatory ecotourism.  We suggest that reviewers maintain a journal of their experience as reference for completing the questionnaire.

For AER reviewers, we plan to offer an online questionnaire.  In the meantime, please copy the text from the .pdf into a text file.  Save the new file as a .doc or .txt.  Please send your review to info @   Thank you.  Only under rare circumstances will we be able to process hand written submittals.  With consistent and committed volunteer support, we also plan to receive and offer reviews in languages other than English.

Join us in appreciating GREAT ecotourism.  Happpy travels!
